A fire erupted in the MTA commuter lot parking garage at The Waterfront shopping complex in Port Chester, engulfing three cars.

According to Port Chester Fire Chief Angelo Sposta, the flames broke out on the second floor of the garage on South Main Street just after 4 a.m. Monday, prompting a significant response from nearly 100 firefighters. No injuries were reported.

Chief Sposta described the intensity of the heat, which caused tires to blow off the cars and resulted in smoke nearly reaching floor-to-ceiling levels. The presence of three fuel tanks, each containing approximately 40 or 50 gallons of gas, added to the danger.

The complex houses various establishments, including the AMC movie theater, Marshalls, Michaels and Stop & Shop. The parking garage, located adjacent to the Metro-North train stop, is a popular parking spot for commuters.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. All three cars involved have been removed from the garage but fire officials anticipate that the parking structure will remain closed for the day until engineers can assess for any damage.
