A fire late Monday night destroyed an Airmont home.
Officials say the flames started on the second floor of the home just after 11 p.m. on Gayle Court.
They say a baby sitter and the homeowner's son were inside at the time, but escaped safely.
Officials say there were no working smoke detectors in the house.
They say they are investigating what may have caused the flames.
One firefighter sustained smoke inhalation and was treated at a hospital.
In the meantime, the American Red Cross says it is helping the family left homeless.
