A fast-moving fire damaged an apartment building in Mount Vernon Monday morning.
Officials say the blaze broke out at 423 Bedford Ave. around 7:30 a.m.
They say the fire started in the boiler room in the basement. When crews arrived at the scene, the flames were running up the walls, extending to the first floor. A neighboring building at 425 Bedford Ave. also had to be evacuated.
No one was hurt in the fire.
A sign in the building said residents were allowed to return to the building to retreive their personal belongings, but there is no gas or electricity.
