Felony charges have been dismissed against a former Spring Valley building inspector in connection to a fatal fire at an assisted living center in Spring Valley.
Raymond Canario has been on trial, charged with submitting false information to the state about inspections conducted at the Evergreen Court Home for Adults between 2017 and 2019.
A fire at the facility in March 2021 led to the death of Spring Valley firefighter Jared Lloyd and a resident.
Canario was indicted on three felony counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing and three misdemeanor counts of offering a false instrument for filing.
Judge Kevin Russo, who heard the case without a jury, dismissed the felony counts but upheld the misdemeanor counts.
Earlier, the judge dismissed charges against former Spring Valley building inspector and Public Works Director Wayne Ballard.
Father and son rabbis, Nathaniel and Aaron Sommer, face felony charges stemming from the fatal fire.
Canario is due back in court on Thursday.
