A federal agency report has revealed new information about the handling of a deadly fire in Spring Valley in 2021, citing failures in planning, coordination, and emergency procedures by firefighters.
The fire, which occurred at the Evergreen Court Home for Adults, was sparked by a blow torch being used inside the building. A volunteer firefighter and a resident lost their lives in the blaze.

The report's findings were reviewed and approved for accuracy by the Rockland County Fire Coordinator and the Spring Valley Fire Chief. A father and son pleaded guilty to starting the fire and were sentenced to probation.
