One man was killed in a bus accident on the New York State Thruway in Orange County Sunday. Investigators on the scene say they are trying to piece together how a truck slammed into two buses filled with Special Olympics athletes heading home to Long Island. The buses were part of a group of five returning from Albany when one bus developed engine trouble. Officials say that?s when two of the buses pulled onto the shoulder on the New York State Thruway. One of the drivers, who was also a mechanic, got out to fix the problem. Police say he was between the two buses when the truck struck the rear bus, pushing it forward and crushing the driver. He died at the scene. The truck driver suffered serious injuries and was flown to Westchester Medical Center. Police on the scene say the Special Olympics athletes and their coaches were transferred onto another bus and headed home to Long Island.
