(AP) -- Fast-food workers and other low-wage employees from around New York are heading to the state Capitol to pressure lawmakers to approve an increase in the minimum wage.
Supporters want lawmakers to raise the wage from $8 an hour to $10.10, allow New York City and other communities to raise the wage as high as $13.13, and make future increases automatic, based on inflation.
Several hundred workers are expected to gather at the Capitol on Tuesday. Organizers say they plan to bus in supporters from around the state.
The bill has emerged as a contentious issue in the final days of the session. The state Legislature expects to adjourn on Thursday.
