The family of a Mount Vernon man stepped up Sunday to preserve his legacy by getting kids ready for school.
Ed Coleman, who died of a heart attack two years ago at 44, was a paraprofessional at Edwards Williams Elementary School. He also worked as a barber.
On Sunday, his family hosted the second annual Family & Friends Day at Wilson Woods Park which featured a free cookout, free back-to-school haircut vouchers and school supply giveaways.
The event also featured face painting, clowns and other entertainments.
Coleman was survived by his wife and two boys.
