The family of a NYPD officer killed during a robbery attempt in Pelham Bay marked the third anniversary of his death Wednesday, as the murder trial for the man accused in his death continued.
A police motorcade escorted the relatives of Officer Daniel Enchautegui from the Bronx County Hall of Justice, where they have been following the murder trial of ?The Sopranos? star Lillo Brancato Jr.
While the relatives of the slain officer were praying at his gravesite at Saint Raymond?s Cemetery, testimony in Brancato?s trial continued. The prosecution called Chief Medical Examiner Lara Goldfeder to the stand.
Goldfeder, who examined Enchautegui after he was shot and killed outside his apartment, confirmed that the officer died from a single gunshot wound to his lower left chest. The officer also had small cuts on his hands from the gun powder that came from the weapon of Stephen Armento.
Goldfeder estimated the officer was standing just 2 to 3 feet away from Armento when he fired the shot.
Armento was convicted of first-degree murder in late October and sentenced to life in prison without parole. Brancato is facing a second-degree murder charge in the killing of Enchautegui.
