The death of a Port Chester resident this past week at a construction site in New York City has left his family and neighbors shocked.
Family members say construction worker Luis Mata had just started a new job on Hudson Street in the West Village. On Thursday, a wooden plank came toppling down upon him, leaving him with severe neck and back injuries. He was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital, where he later died.
Mata lived on Locust Avenue in Port Chester, and would spend time with family who lived on Central Avenue.
He was one of three children, his siblings and mother still live in Mexico.
Police are investigating what caused the falling debris.
Mata's family is still working to arrange funeral plans.
