Family members of a man who jumped to his death while trying to evade police officers have hired an attorney.
Relatives of Dario Tena want answers as to why Police Officer Neil Vera and Detective Christian Koch haven't been charged in Tena's death. The pair, with 20 years of experience between them, face criminal and internal charges for allegedly falsifying information for a search warrant.
The warrant was executed in March at Tena's apartment at 141 School St. in Yonkers. Police said they did find drugs inside the home, but an internal investigation revealed red flags.
During the raid, Tena jumped from a third-story bedroom window to his death on the concrete outside. Officials said his injuries were so grave that he didn't have a chance of surviving.
While authorities have charged the officers for allegedly lying to obtain the warrant, Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardener has said Vera and Koch aren't responsible for Tena's death.
However, Tena's relatives aren't so sure and they are demanding answers. They believe officers left Tena feeling as though he didn't have a choice when they executed the warrant.
Koch and Vera, who have both pleaded not guilty to perjury, are due back in court .
