A beloved father from White Plains is being remembered after he was struck and killed in Greenburgh.

New 12's Nikita Ramos spoke with the victim's niece who is now joining the fight to bring change to the town, which she says is plagued by pedestrian accidents.

Graciano Calderon, 75, of White Plains, was walking along Tarrytown Road in Greenburgh Friday afternoon on his way to meet his son for lunch.

Calderon was struck and killed on the way.

The family says Graciano was also known as "El Tio," which means uncle in Spanish, because of the way he treated everybody as if they were his family.

"He didn't have much but he was always willing to give his whole heart and soul and just anything to help somebody else,” says Calderon’s niece, Olga Arias.

Two others lost their lives and five people were struck in this same town within just the past four months.

Now the family is demanding change.

The Greenburgh Police Department continues to look into the accident as the family tries to pick up the pieces from their loss.

The family launched a GoFundMe page for their beloved "El Tio,” with a $15,000 goal to cover funeral costs. They've already raised over $1,500 in less than 24 hours.

"He was a lovely man, always smiling, always happy -- he just loved life,” says Graciano's niece Mirian Peralta.

This Friday's deadly crash took place just one day after a 14-year-old boy was hit by a car in Greenburgh while he was walking to school.

After that accident, Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said he would consider adding red-light cameras in addition to sidewalks to help keep the streets safer.
