Family and friends came to pay their respects during memorial services held Thursday at Croton Point Park for a 17-year-old who died in a car crash. Police say Christopher McDonough made the fatal mistake of driving while intoxicated. Also in the vehicle were two former students of Croton Harmon High School. The car crashed into a center median between Welcher Avenue and Montrose Station Road on Route 9 in Montrose. McDonough died the following morning after being hospitalized at Westchester Medical Center. Survivors of the crash, Matthew Stanton and Dylan Franco, sustained neck and back injuries. Franco has been released from Phelps Memorial Hospital and Stanton remains at Westchester Medical Center. This tragedy comes at a time when state and local police wage campaigns to stop drunk drivers. Police plan to press charges against those who provided alcohol to the teens.
