A unique hamlet tucked away in the town of Carmel, Mahopac is getaway you'll keep coming back to.
First explore this Road Trip: Close to Home from a different perspective and what better way to do that than a boat ride on Lake Mahopac?
Book a reservation online with Mahopac Marina, and you can ride through the waters with views from a pontoon.
Cruise through the waves, wind and fresh air with panoramic views of all that nature has to offer.
Then hop on the Putnam Trailway, a 9-mile section of the new Empire State Trail!
The Empire State trail is a 750-mile bike and walking trail that spans from Manhattan through the Hudson Valley, all the way to the northern borders of New York.
But this Putnam portion of the trailway leads you through Mahopac to Brewster and beyond!
After all that activity, take a coffee break and check out what's brewing along the trail at the Freight House Cafe. "The building itself was built in 1872, it was the first freight house built for the old Putnam railroad line," says owner Donna Massaro.
The building played a large role in the 19th century railway system, and today it helps to fuel visitors along the Putnam Trailway. "People will call us and we'll take their order and then we'll put it in the pulley system, we will pulley it up to them," says Massaro. The system bringing contactless delivery to another level!
