The federal government is urging millions of drivers to take immediate action to protect themselves against exploding airbags.
The defective Takata airbags are in millions of cars from the early to mid-2000s. The range of vehicles includes Toyota , Honda, Nissan and many more.
At least two deaths have been linked to crashes where the airbags exploded, sending shrapnel into the cars' occupants.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration urges anyone who has received a letter in the mail to get their car fixed as soon as possible.
