Excitement was in the air at the new Yankee Stadium as the team played its first exhibition game on the new field Friday night.
Fans were excited for the new season and some of its new stars, but the biggest star was the new stadium. The $1.5 billion ballpark comes with all of the bells and whistles expected from the organization. More than 20,000 fans turned out for the team's inaugural practice Thursday.
While fans were excited for the new season, some were disappointed by the price of the tickets. The Team Marketing Report released its annual survey Thursday and said the average price of a Yankees home ticket was a major league-high $72.97, a 76.3 percent increase from last year's $41.40. And the price of a premium seat in the Legends Suites could be anywhere from $500 to $2,500.
The Yankees took on the Cubs in an exhibition game, and the Bronx Bombers won, 7 to 4. The team begins the season on the road Monday. The home opener at the stadium is scheduled for April 16.
