Former Spring Valley Mayor Noramie Jasmin was found guilty of corruption charges today.

Jasmin was arrested in 2013 and charged with wire fraud and extortion in connection with the "Corridor of Corruption" case. Prosecutors say Jasmin abused her position as mayor to guarantee herself a 50 percent stake in a proposed catering hall and community center that was to be built on village-owned property. Unknown to the 51-year-old Democrat, she allegedly made the deal with FBI informant Mark Stern, who was posing as a rich developer.

Closing arguments in the corruption trial were given Friday in the case that lasted a week. Jasmin opted for a bench trial, which meant there was no jury and it was up to U.S. Judge Colleen McMahon to decide the case.

Jasmin will be sentenced on Aug. 7. She faces up to 40 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
