A former village official in Rockland County has pleaded guilty to state weapons charges.

Brian Downey, a former village of Airmont official, pleaded guilty to a number of state weapons charges on Tuesday afternoon.

The 49-year-old had been hit with dozens of weapons charges back in 2021 after guns were found in his Airmont home during a search warrant, which happened as a result of authorities being alerted that he bought an illegal rifle suppression device.

Downey, a former trustee as well as a deputy mayor for Airmont, vacated his position when he pleaded guilty to federal weapons charges earlier this month.

Following his guilty plea Tuesday, he could face a maximum two-year sentence for these state charges, which will run concurrently with his punishment at the federal level.

Downey is expected to be sentenced federally in White Plains on June 1 and in Rockland County Court on June 27.
