Ramapo Town Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence is expected to be sentenced in September after being convicted on federal charges over the financing of a baseball stadium in Pomona.
After a four-week trial and nine hours of deliberations, the jury found St. Lawrence guilty of federal conspiracy and fraud.
Prosecutors presented evidence to show the supervisor inflated the town's finances to get municipal bonds to pay for Palisades Credit Union Park, formerly Provident Bank Park.
The conviction means he has been forced to vacate his position as town supervisor. Deputy Supervisor Yitzchok Ullman will assume the position for the time being.
News 12 went to St. Lawrence's home in Pomona for a statement, but no one answered the door.
