A former Dutchess County corrections sergeant continues to stand trial this week for allegedly murdering his ex-wife.
Timothy Alexander is accused of fatally stabbing 34-year-old Terrie DeGelormo, the mother of his then toddler son, outside her home in Wappinger in 2018.
The two divorced the year before.
Alexander, who was also the president of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Employee Association, has been on trial for second-degree murder since last week.
DeGelormo's sister-in-law says she wishes DeGelormo's concerns were taken seriously before she was killed.
"She was a single mother and she was finding her way on her own and this still happened to her. So there's not always a clear solution and these women need to be supported and backed up," says Jessica DeGelormo, the victim's sister-in-law.
Timothy Alexander has pleaded not guilty and is being held in Ulster County Jail.
