A group of people scaled the walls of tall buildings in Stamford, Connecticut Saturday to raise money and awareness about heroin addiction.
The fundraiser was organized by a charity called Shatterproof. Organizers say rappelling buildings is symbolic of how a struggling addict gets to recovery.
One of the participants at the event, Renee Hustin, lost her 23-year-old son to a heroin overdose. Back in March, Hustin recounted to News 12 the day she found him dead in his room with a needle sticking out of his arm.
Seventy-five people died of heroin overdoses last year in the Hudson Valley. About 350 people die of drug addictions per day in the United States.
