5ds agoThe Electoral College met Monday to cast their votes for either President-elect Joe Biden or President Donald Trump.
California cast the deciding vote, pushing Biden to the 270 votes needed to be elected president.
After the general election in November, electors in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. officially cast their ballots on the second Monday in December.
Biden declared victory last month, but Trump is contesting the election, claiming it was rigged.
Each elector cast their ballots one by one, including four from the Hudson Valley, including Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins from Yonkers.
“I did it with great pride and it felt really, really good to see democracy play out this way,” said Stewart-Cousins.
The results of Monday’s vote will be sent to Washington and then the votes will be counted in a joint session of Congress on Jan. 6. Biden is expected to be sworn into office on Jan. 20.
