The race for Town of Wallkill supervisor is not over yet.
Supervisor George Serrano and his challenger, Town Councilman Neil Meyer, confirmed to News 12 on Tuesday that the election results are currently considered a tie.
Serrano says a tie by state law is a difference of less than 1%, which then requires a recount.
Meyer says a hand recount is expected next week.
“We always knew that this race would be close and that every vote would count. Following the receipt of outstanding absentee ballots, the counting of affidavits, and the recanvassing of voting machines, this race appears to be tied,” says Meyer. “Next week there will be a hand recount of every ballot cast, and we hope to prevail.”
Serrano declined to comment until the Board of Elections provides an update on the recount date.
