Edgemont residents continue to push to become a village despite Greenburgh residents' concerns
Some Edgemont residents told us they want the ability to elect their own mayor and board of trustees.
Dozens of Edgemont and Greenburgh residents voiced their opinions at a public hearing on Edgemont's petition to become a village.
Paul Feiner, the Greenburgh Town Supervisor, said he will make a decision on the legality of the petition under village law in the next 10 days. The decision will be posted on the town’s website.
There have already been two petition efforts before this one but they were rejected by the courts.
Some Edgemont residents told us they want the ability to elect their own mayor and board of trustees.
“A lot of it stems from wanting to chart our own future when it comes to things like land use, zoning and planning and having more control over our tax dollars,” Jon Lewis, an Edgemont resident, said.
Greenburgh residents who came to the hearing gave documents to town officials with their objections. Some of those concerns include higher taxes and losing town revenue.
“if they truly embrace the importance of education, exposure, diversity of children in our town, they will not support an action that would withdraw resources” Judith A. Beville, a Greenburgh resident and former town clerk, said.
