Efforts to uncover the truth about the East Ramapo School District's finances persist as State Sen. Bill Weber is seeking answers about a possible $90 million surplus.
Weber recently wrote a letter to the state Education Department commissioner and the district's state monitor, questioning the surplus after years of warnings about a looming deficit.
"We want to make sure that the information we get is accurate and if we have to do any additional help with this district in the future, we want to really know what the true financial picture of the district is," says Weber. "As I said earlier, the shifting narrative from one year ago is breathtaking."
The district, under a new interim superintendent and state monitor this school year, has been grappling with financial uncertainties.
According to documents, the school board is expected to vote at tonight's meeting to hire an outside firm to conduct a forensic audit of the district's finances.
