A swimmer spent Friday morning in the Hudson River to protest the Indian Point nuclear power plant for Earth Day.
Chris Swain took a dive into the Hudson in Stony Point. He says it was a way to object to the nearby Indian Point nuclear power plant, which he claims causes a great threat to public health.
"There are millions whose health is at risk if there were to be an accident here at Indian Point," Swain says.
Swain swam the river to check for heightened temperatures from water coming from Indian Point, as well as for areas of radiation, he says. He hopes that the plant will one day be decommissioned.
He spent about two hours swimming from Stony Point to Peekskill.
Entergy spokesman Jerry Nappi responded to Swain's protest, saying Swain "will be exposed to more radiation from natural background sources on his drive over to his press conference than he will from anything related to Indian Point."
