Dutchess County Minority Leader Yvette Valdés-Smith has declared her candidacy for Senate District 39.

A former public-school teacher and longstanding union member, Valdés-Smith aims to represent parts of Dutchess, Orange, and Putnam counties in the state Legislature.

She says her campaign's focus is on elevating the fight for struggling families and delivering significant results for the region.

Valdés-Smith enters the race with endorsements and support from elected officials, including Rep. Pat Ryan and Assembly Member Dana Levenberg.
