A Dutchess County man has been sentenced to nearly two years in prison for his role in the 2021 riots at the Capitol.
Christopher Patrick Moynihan, 41, of Salt Point, was convicted of obstruction of an official proceeding.
The U.S. Justice Department says that Moynihan was among the rioters who broke through the security perimeter of the east side of the Capitol building.
He joined rioters outside the Rotunda Door and entered the building. He went to the Senate Chamber, where he paged through a notebook on top of a senator's desk and was in the well of the Senate, when he and others were escorted out.
Besides his sentence of 21 months in prison, Moynihan will be on probation for three years and must pay $2,000 in restitution.
