Lawmakers in Rockland are considering a new law that could regulate the use of drones in the county.
The proposed measure would only allow individuals to use the drones on their own property, on others' property with permission or in public parks. Drones would not be allowed anywhere else, especially near government buildings or sensitive areas, like the county jail complex.
"It's a safety issue, it's a privacy issue. It's a strong law. I'm glad we're out in front of it," says Rockland Legislator Jay Hood.
Under the proposed law, violators would be fined $250 for the first offense. They would face increased fines, and even jail time, in subsequent cases.
