A Monroe man escaped serious injury after his car crashed into a utility pole and caught fire in Salisbury Mills.
Cornwall police say the single-car crash happened Saturday, Sept. 12, around 10:24 a.m. near Route 94 and Old Route 94.
Police say the 30-year-old driver was the only person in the car when it went off the road and struck a utility pole before catching fire.
The driver told police a large vehicle traveling in the opposite direction came close to the center line, causing him to swerve off the road.
Viewer photos from the scene show the car engulfed in flames against the utility pole as firefighters worked to put out the fire.
The driver was taken by EMS to a hospital for evaluation. Police say he did not appear to have suffered any major injuries.
Police have not released the driver’s name.
