Top American health officials are urging people to get vaccinated as a tool to fight the omicron variant.

They say it has the ability to become the dominant strain of the virus soon.

"You have to take it very seriously," says Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. "The vulnerable people are those that have not been vaccinated."

Fauci says the boosters stand up well against the omicron variant but adds that the new strain is the most transmissible virus of COVID that has been dealt with so far.
