December in the Hudson Valley is kicking off with a winter storm.
The latest alerts from the National Weather Service has Orange, Dutchess, Sullivan and Ulster Counties in a winter storm watch with snow totals of close to 6 inches.
Rockland and Putnam Counties have been placed under a winter weather advisory. with possible totals of 1 to 3 inches with some rain/wintry mix mixed in. No National Weather Service warning or advisory has been issued for Westchester County at the moment but that will likely change later in the day.
Preparations for tomorrow's storm will depend upon where Department of Public Works are located. The storm will be a plowing event for crews in the northern region.
Joe Tavolilla, General Forman for the Tuckahoe Department of Public Works, says his crews and others in the southern part of the Hudson Valley will likely concentrate on pre-treating the roads with a salt and brine mixture before the storm hits to help melt any frozen precipitation, but there may not be enough snow fall for crews in the southern areas to plow.
