DPW crews gear up for first storm of the season
DPW crews across the Hudson Valley are preparing for the first storm of the season.
In White Plains, trucks are loaded with sand and salt and are being deployed to prep roadways this morning. Since much of southern Westchester is only expected to get an inch or two of accumulation, White Plains is not expected to deploy its ful fleet of snowplows.
However, areas north and west of I-287 could see up to 5 inches of snow, and Dutchess and Ulster counties could see 5-8 inches.
Dutchess County Executive Mark Molinaro spoke to News 12 outside the DPW, saying even though it may be early for snow, DPW workers will be ready.
Residents across the region tell News 12 they aren't taking any chances and were stocking up on salt and sand at local hardware stores. "I've got five different tubes of sand here, I've got five different bags of salt in my pickup truck. I already have a blower and everything. I grew up in Western Pennsylvania, so New York snow is like a walk in the park," says Don Oglesbee, of Ellenville.
