Dozens gathered at Washington Irving School in Tarrytown Wednesday for a march to mark World Refugee Day.

The walk began at 7:30 p.m. at the school and ended at Patriot's Park.

The march was organized by a high school group called "Students For Refugees" that works with refugee children housed without their families at the Abbott House in Irvington. "I know kids who have come to escape gang violence in central American countries and you can see it in their eyes," says organizer Daniel Marshall.

According to a new United Nations report, the number of displaced people has hit a record high with more than 68 million last year. That's up from the 65 million recorded in 2016. The report estimates that one in every 110 people on the planet is a refugee, internationally displaced or seeking asylum.
