Early indications seem to show that a fast-moving fire at a senior apartment complex in Rockland County last weekend may have been accidental.
Insurance adjustors and fire inspectors went through the charred remains of the Cortwood Village Senior Complex on Monday, trying to determine what happened
They say apartments on the second floor were the most damaged by fire on Saturday night. The lower level suffered mostly smoke and water damage.
Officials say it took nearly 60 firefighters more than an hour to get the fire under control. A firewall helped stop the blaze from spreading to other apartments.
About two dozen people are looking for a new place to stay due to the fire. Displaced residents are either staying with family or being assisted by the American Red Cross.
