The historic downtown area in Yonkers known as Chicken Island may soon be getting a facelift.
The city is now marketing a vacant lot and surrounding buildings between Nepperhan and Palisade avenues to prominent developers across the tri-state area.
Mayor Mike Spano has called the area one of Yonkers' most valuable assets.
"We have views, it's historic, there's character and so much to offer," he said.
Nearly a dozen nearby businesses would have to close for the new development.
The city says it purchased all the properties and plans to start tearing them down this summer
