Department of Health officials said Wednesday that they are closely monitoring reports of the potentially deadly enterovirus after two confirmed cases in Orange County.
Orange County Deputy Commissioner of Health Chris Ericson says the problem is there is no vaccine or treatment for the D68 strain.
The virus has infected a child in Rockland County and reportedly killed five people nationwide, most recently as close as New Jersey.
Health experts say the virus typically affects children and elderly people with respiratory problems.
