Dog owners in Williamsburg are on high alert after some dogs apparently caught leptospirosis at McCaren Park.
Leptospirosis is a deadly disease spread through rat urine. According to neighbors, several dogs caught the disease earlier this week.
Councilman Lincoln Restler says it's believed the disease has led to the deaths of at least four dogs who visited the park's dog run in the last 10 days.
The Health Department has not confirmed any cases of the disease at the park yet.
Restler says the Parks Department is working to fix the issue. The Health Department is investigating and urges dog owners to get their pets vaccinated against leptospirosis.
