The state Department of Education is expected to announce Thursday that it has hired a special monitor to oversee the troubled East Ramapo Central School District.
The hand-picked monitor will oversee the heavily scrutinized financial dealings of the Orthodox Jewish-run school board.
State lawmakers Ken Zebrowski, Ellen Jaffee and David Carlucci say it is something that has been lacking for nearly a decade in the racially divided school district.
The monitor won't have veto power over the board, something that some child advocates are complaining about.
By having a monitor on the ground, lawmakers who spoke with News 12 say they will have the ammunition they need to do what they haven't been able to so far, which is pass stronger legislation in Albany.
Republican Assemblyman Karl Brabanec is also praising the expected announcement calling it the exact compromise East Ramapo needs.
