At a time when consumer confidence is way down, a Wal-Mart in White Plains is confident it will have a slew of customers on Black Friday.
Consumer spending plunged 1 percent last month, pointing to a possible recession. But discount retailers such as Wal-Mart hope to convince local shoppers to dig a little deeper into their wallets despite the slumping economy.
Karen McBride, of the Westchester Business Journal, says good prices and steep discounts are what shoppers are looking for.
"They'll be shopping at the discount retailers like the Wal-Marts, the Kmarts and the Costcos, so I think they'll do really well," she says.
