Democrats are going after the Assembly seat of the only socialist state lawmaker north of New York City.

State Sen. James Skoufis' former deputy chief of staff, Gabi Madden, announced her candidacy against incumbent State Assembly Member Sarahana Shrestha.

Shrestha is a member of the Democratic Socialist Party and represents the 103rd District, which includes parts of Dutchess and Ulster counties.

Madden's platform includes supporting safe housing, being climate-centered and advancing affordability.

The incumbent focuses on universal healthcare, criminal justice reform, and immigrant rights.
