There are five people vying to be on the Democratic line for Spring Valley mayor this primary.
Those names are Darnett Davis, Chrispin Eugene, Eudson Francois, Schenley Vital, and Noramie Jasmin.
Early voting is underway now ahead of primary day on Tuesday, June 24.
News 12 heard back from three candidates for an interview.
Vital is a businessman, attorney and former chair of the county Democrats. While he does not live in the village, he would move if elected. He has ties to Spring Valley through his parents who came to the U.S. from Haiti.
"I don't think how long you've been in the village should be a litmus test to who should be," said Vital. "It should be who is most competent and who is most qualified."
Vital's focus would include addressing contracts and getting more grants.
Eudson Tyson Francois is a former village trustee. He's called Spring Valley home for decades since moving here from Haiti.
"I feel great," said Francois. "I do feel great. I feel that every time I'm on the road folks are saying 'We got you. We got you. We got you."
Francois wants to address housing, crime and improving infrastructure.
Darnett E. Davis is a board member at Finkelstein Memorial Library and has been in child care for more than a decade. She came to Spring Valley in 2004 from Jamaica.
"I am honest. I am committed. I am transparent," said Davis. "I am ready to take on the challenges of this village."
Her focus would include improving roads, attracting businesses, and the taxi industry.
News 12 has not yet heard back from the two other Democratic candidates, Noramie Jasmin and Chrispin Eugene.
There will also be a Republican primary between Darnett Davis and Aaron Stern.
