The deadly volcano eruption in Guatemala over the weekend is prompting action and concern from people in the Hudson Valley’s Guatemalan communities.
Guatemala's Fuego volcano erupted on Sunday, killing dozens of people and injuring scores more. Guatemalan authorities say the volcanic eruption sent a river of lava and clouds of thick smoke nearly 6 miles into the air.
Guisela Corrado, of Mount Vernon, says two relatives live near the volcano.
"I have two uncles in Quintila. We don't know anything about it yet. We just hopefully get in touch with them soon,” she says.

Some of the volcanic ash reached as far away as the capital, Guatemala City, where Corrado’s mother and most of her relatives live.
Authorities say the explosion stands to affect nearly 2 million people, with more than 3,000 now evacuated from their homes. To help the displaced, Corrado is raising money to send to Guatemala.
The village of Port Chester has one of the largest Guatemalan communities in Westchester. It will be holding a fundraiser this weekend for the victims of the volcano eruption.
Guatemala is now in a three-day state of mourning, and officials are concerned that more volcanic eruptions could be on the way.
