Six day laborers who filed a lawsuit against the village of Mamaroneck will now have to prepare to go to trial.
In February, the village closed Columbus Park, where immigrants gathered to find work. The workers claimed in a class-action suit filed in April that their right to free speech and assembly was violated after the village closed the hiring site due to what it says were safety issues. The suit also says the police have mistreated the workers since the park closed. The judge urged both sides to try to resolve the issues without going to trial, however, no resolution could be met.
Both sides say they are prepared to fight in court. The trial will begin September 11.
