A rally was held Saturday in Spring Valley to protest day laborers, which was part of a national movement to crack down on immigration.
William Tibbe organized the rally on Route 59 as part of a group called Citizens Civil Defense. The group wants the day laborers, many of which are illegal immigrants, to go return to their native countries. Tibbe say day laborers are not contributing to society and are hurting American businesses.
However, the Rockland Immigration Coalition held a counter-protest nearby in support of day laborers' right to work. Many in the group say the immigrants are just trying to pursue the American dream.
