An unidentified man fell 60 feet down an elevator shaft and died Wednesday in Mount Vernon.
The man is believed to have been a 28-year-old Mexican national. He was working as a day laborer to repair the roof at 6 Gramatan Ave. when he accidentally fell down an elevator shaft, police said.
Investigators say they don't believe foul play was involved. The victim's co-workers said the man was trying to put away his tools for the night when he fell to his death.
Police say their main priority is identifying the man and notifying his family.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is now involved in the investigation, officials said.
