Police say they have made four arrests out-of-state nearly four months after Rockland political activist Peggy Nadell was found stabbed to death in her Valley Cottage home.
Investigators say Nadell's daughter-in-law, Diana Nadell, was arrested in Florida in connection to the death and charged with second-degree murder. Diana Nadell, who is married to Nadell's son James, is a mother of two children.
They also say two Washington, D.C. women and a California woman have been charged in the crime. It is not known at this time how the women know each other.
All four suspects are in custody and will be extradited to Rockland in the next few days for their arraignments.
Nadell's neighbors say they are heartbroken, especially for Nadell's two teenage grandchildren and son James, who are now faced with more family tragedy.
Susanne Nadell-Saccio, Nadell's daughter, found her mother stabbed in the chest at the family's Andover Road home on Jan. 25. Nadell-Saccio's attorney says they are reserving comment at this time.
Valley Cottage neighbors say they can finally breathe a sigh of relief. "It's nice to see that the neighborhood will be settled and everybody can go back to normal. This is a great neighborhood and it's a shame that this had to happen," said neighbor Pete Malcolm.
When asked if there will be more arrests, District Attorney Tom Zugibe said, "The investigation is ongoing and we don't know where it's going to lead."
