Police say a 25-year-old woman is being held on charges that she killed her own mother over the weekend in Stony Point.
Marilyn Mora is accused of stabbing her 60-year-old mother with a large knife during a confrontation at her Willow Grove Road home early Sunday morning.
Stony Point police say officers discovered the victim after responding to a 911 call.
Marco Mora, who is the suspect's husband, says he was sleeping in his daughter's bedroom when he heard Marilyn Mora trying to unlock the door, according to a statement to police.
"I got up and opened the door and observed Marilyn standing in the doorway holding a large kitchen knife," he said. "I asked if she was OK, to which she indicated she was not."
He allegedly removed the knife from her hand and Marilyn Mora entered their daughter's room and lay next to her.
In the same statement, he says he observed Marilyn grab their daughter by the throat with both hands and attempt to choke her. He said he intervened, pushed Marilyn Mora away and took their daughter into his son and mother-in-law's bedroom.
Mora is facing second-degree murder and possession of a weapon charges, as well as other charges that are still pending. Those other charges include attempted assault in the second degree, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation and endangering the welfare of a child.
She is currently being held at the Rockland County Jail pending a court appearance Friday.
