The Lewisboro town supervisor is expected to name councilman and self-proclaimed anti-war activist Dan Welsh as deputy supervisor – but some outraged residents want him expelled from the town board over comments he made on Facebook about the Israel-Hamas war.
Welsh called Israel’s bombing of Gaza “war crimes” in a Nov. 17post. He then doubled down when commenters reacted with outrage.
"Occupied people have the right to armed resistance under the Geneva protocol," he posted. “The reality is that Israel is responding to an act of resistance by an occupied people."
The comments sparked calls and a petition for Welsh to resign.
Welsh is expected to be named deputy supervisor during a town board meeting tonight at Lewisboro Town Hall. News 12 cameras will be there.
Residents against his appointment say they’ve contacted the Anti-Defamation League.
