Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas' bumpy tenure saw another jolt Monday when he surrendered to police on corruption charges.
"He should immediately resign and spare people the cost and the legal expense -- and the embarrassment of the city," says Sam Rivers, a longtime critic.
As News 12 has reported, state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is accusing Thomas of misusing campaign funds for his personal benefit.
But supporters say they don't believe the charges and point to the mayor's impact on the city.
"He's a good guy," says Robert Marable. "He does a lot for the community. Helps out a lot. I don't think he would do that."
